Reunited and it feels so good.

As a student at Cali Uni, I always made sure to read the student magazine Re:union and contributed to it a few times over the years. The cover of the current issue is fab, featuring one of our favourite women here at The Coveted, Florence Welch from Florence & The Machine. Check oot that gold cape! They even bagged an interview with the lady herself. Jealous? Us? Yes. Very jealous.

numero uno?

I had tweeted about a new boutique in my hometown Milngavie called No 1 a couple of days ago. This is a big deal. Milngavie is not known for it's decent clothes shops. Other than Supermarket clothing ranges, and old lady clothing stores, it doesn't have much to offer.

After I finished at the BBC (still in shock...I really need a day for the dust to settle after what was an explosive interview before I go into much detail :P) I went in for a wee look around and found it quite wag-ish...tight body con dresses, slogan sparkly tees and flock wallpaper. However, I found a fab slouchy black, almost sheer baggy t shirt dress with large black beads all over the front, very similar to my Christopher Kane for Topshop white tee and rewarded myself for not swearing live on air by buying it.

It was a bargain at £25! However, the difference in quality between this and my more expensive CK tee is already noticeable, as I think I may have to reinforce the stitching on some of the beads before I wear it.

Two smallish complaints about the store, although having spoken to the owner, it just opened on Thursday, so we should probably cut the poor woman some slack. Regardless of this, most of the clothing seemed to stop at a uk size 12 which was a bit off putting and there was not a sniff of Scottish talent.

Perhaps this is something that may change in the future though.

Nervousness killed the radio star.

The Editor of The Coveted Mag, Sarah, will be on BBC Radio Scotland tomorrow (Tuesday 17th November) at 11am discussing fashion blogging and The Scottish Fashion Industry.

Years of training? Pah!

Walking through John Lewis's haberdashery yesterday, I came across these 'Be a Fashion Designer with No Skill, Training or Talent' sets for sale just in time for Xmas. They reminded me of being 7 years old and wanting a 1980s style fashion wheel, but that was acceptable because that was geared towards children and colouring in pre-drawn images was about as technical as I wanted to get.

These sets endorsed by Project Runway (Heidi, how could you?) are targeting adults so must be far more advanced.

 

I also saw this 'Make your own Fascinator' set. Words fail me.

Absolutely dying of the cold right now, which is not good as photoshoots need to be organised, articles need to be written, and launch parties need to be scheduled. Not good indeed.

Sifting through the usual rubbish in my inbox, a launch invite caught my eye for Edinburgh based Adil Iqbal's new collection. He states that his three main influences are Northern Pakistan, Vintage and Futurism. The range will be available to buy from Kakao by K.

 

 

 

INTO the wild.

You may remember the photo of the fabby knitted necklaces from our visit to the Made in the Shade Maisonette.

After a little facebook investigation, we found out that they were created by Scottish Designer Lorraine Linton under the brand name INTO Knitted Textile Design.

As well as their new collection being available in the MITS Maisonette, INTO also have a fabby sale on in their Etsy store.

Just had a wee look on Model Mayhem for a photographer, and came across these fab images using Scottish Textile Designers bebaroque's tights. The photographer, Melissa Jenkins has a fantastic portfolio and the model, especially in the bebaroque shots, is a very strong poser. If these are not the brand's official new campaign images, then they bloody well should be!

Cheapskate chic

Everyone knows that kid's clothes are cheaper than adults, but unfortunately we are all not 'blessed' with bodies like 13 year old girls, unless you are a 13year old girl, that is. And if that is the case, then you probably shouldn't be reading this blog with it's occasional swearing and loose morals.

Anyway, recently I happened to read online somewhere that Posh Spice regularly buys clothing in Gap's kids section. Whether this is true or not, is completely irrelevant as it reminded me of buying a bag in Scottish retailer M&Co's Kylie section when I was 21. In fact, my sister at 5 years my senior, went out and bought the same bag the next day. It was a £7 black bowling bag affair, with white addidas-esque stripes and a number 66 motif. Not the sort of thing that I would buy now, but at the time, it was pretty cool.

Nobody's talking about it...

Remember the excitement everyone felt when the first Kate Moss for Topshop collection hit the stores? We remember counting down the days before the launch, and even setting our alarm clock, so as not to miss out on that pansy print playsuit!

How times have changed.

The Christmas Collection launch came and went without any hype from reputable fashion blogs and mags.

Two questions:

1. Why all the nightwear/undies?

2. With most dresses costing over £100, has it always been this expensive?

Having never been a fan of the floaty-floaty boho chic look, the range seems especially tired and staid after the studded, futuristic wonder of the Christopher Kane pieces.

Can't even be arsed to stick some pictures of it in this post.

It's all a bit 'meh'.
